・This gauze towel is crafted by Oboro Towel Co., Ltd., a company based in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture, which has been dedicated exclusively to the production of towels since its foundation in Meiji 41 (1908).
・It is characterised by its soft texture, excellent absorbency and quick-drying properties.
・When folded, it can be stored compactly, is convenient to carry around, and doesn’t take up much space when washing.
【About Oboro Towels】
In Meiji 41, the founder, Shōzaburō Morita, invented and patented a technique in which only the weft threads are dyed, whilst the pile remains undyed. As the patterns produced by this dyeing method appear ‘hazy’, the technique came to be commonly known as ‘oboro-zome’.
This ‘Oboro Towel’ is the original version of the towels with a gauze backing—which are now a common sight—and those generally known as ‘printed towels’.
